Hands-On Adult Archaeology Camp Sponsored by Alliance for Weedon Island Research and Education Join the Alliance for Weedon Island Research and Education (AWIARE) in discovering the prehistory of the Tampa Bay region. Participants will work with professional archaeologists to uncover the rich cultures of the past and will help scientists investigate the early people who once were inhabitants of Weedon Island and their surrounding environment. Learn about their lifestyle and beliefs through field and lab work, lectures, and tours.

Archaeology Day Discover the rich history of Tampa Bay at our celebration of Florida Archaeology Month at Weedon Island! The Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education (AWIARE) and the Central Florida Gulf Coast Archaeological Society (CGCAS) will be on-site with a diverse showcase of pre-Columbian artifacts from the Tampa Bay region and archaeological experts will be on-hand to illustrate the use of these tools and their importance to native populations. Local fossil collectors are encouraged to bring in artifacts such as arrow heads, lithics, and pottery sherds for identification. Also check out the 1,100-year-old dugout canoe on display in the Center and visit our free museum exhibit "Connecting People and Place" that tells the story of Weedon Island and its earliest inhabitants.

Archaeology Lectures Series Sponsored by Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society Join the Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society (CGCAS) in partnership with the Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education (AWIARE) for this annual lecture series spanning diverse archaeological topics pertaining to the peoples who proceeded us here in Florida and the artifacts they left behind.
